Laparoscopic partial salpingectomy for ectopic pregnancy
Findings:
100mls blood in the pelvis
Left ectopic pregnancy filling end of fallopian tube
Normal right tube
Normal ovaries
No other scarring or fertility issues such as endometriosis
Operation details:
The fallopian tube is lifted up on the left. Blood is seen coming from the end of the tube. The pregnancy is inside the tube still.
Initial wash and suction to visualise the pelvis
The uterus to the top right of the screen. The bowel and its overlying yellow fat can be seen at the bottom of the screen
The ovary on the left is the white tissue next to the fallopian tube containing the ectopic
An instrument grasping the ectopic in the tube from the right
A coagulating instrument heat-sealing the tube from the left before laparoscopic scissors are used to free the ectopic in the tube
The ectopic is removed via one of the key-hole ports.
A final wash to remove the blood and view of the other side showing a normal tube and ovary.
Prospects for a normal pregnancy next time are excellent as there is no other obvious fertility-related problems present, although as always the chance of another ectopic is higher than normal. It will be recommend to have early scan next pregnancy at about 6 weeks from last menstrual period (LMP).
